Angling Opportunities in Education

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandella

We offer a range of relaxed informative tuition, recognised angling qualifications, immersive excursion itineraries and memorable fly fishing adventures.

Here is a bit about us and what we do…

Richard & Phillipa Winser live on the shore of Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire and have extensive experience fly fishing in the UK and overseas including South Africa, France, Alaska and Slovenia.

Both are voluntary game angling guides for disabled, special needs and terminally ill children; in 2023 they received The Kings Coronation Champions Award, a nationally prestigious (Royal) award for these endeavours. They also instruct and assess for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, have professional indemnity and public liability insurance, are qualified as Ambulance Service level 3 Community First Responder [first aid] and hold enhanced Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) Certificates.

The breadth of our wider coaching experience and scope extends to mainstream primary and secondary schools, special educational needs schools, nurture groups and alternative education providers; this includes offering specialist educational provision to young people who are ‘school refusers’ or have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools or are at risk of exclusion.

We work with school teaching staff to devise and deliver contextualised and tailored lesson plans, with defined educational objectives and outcomes.

The Fly Fishing Academy helps support children and young people with complex learning and physical disability needs. We also work with pupils who are experiencing barriers to learning; from low aspirations and anxieties to a fear of failure. Our work also embraces the National Health Service Charitable Trust, local Autism support groups and specialist community provisions for those with multiple learning difficulties.

We won the Huntingdon Community and Business Award 2023, for overall impact on the community. Completely independent and separate to that, we also received another community award for our involvement with “Dreamdrops”, supporting young people with Autism through the NHS Charitable Trust.

Additionally, our protracted work with Aylsham High School, Norfolk, led to them being recognised in the ‘Outstanding Commitment to Special Educational Needs and Disability’ category – Norfolk Education Awards.

If you require further information or are a school or charity that needs to discuss possibilities, please contact us.
